Since 1974, Catholic Charities has operated community residences to help individuals achieve their highest level of functioning and to participate as fully as possible in the surrounding community.  As they are able, residents participate by doing their share of the household chores, such as laundry, cleaning, and meal preparation.

As part of the National Preparedness Month, Catholic Charities is hosting its 1st Emergency Preparedness Day event themed; Is Your Family Ready? Emergencies can strike a community at any time and with little or no advance warning, this event will give individuals, families and businesses an opportunity to find resources and receive education in emergency management. 

Students will assist with registration of vendors, volunteers and participants. Assistance with serving lunch, workshop, maintenance and crowd control. Emergency Preparedness Day is an outdoor event, Rain or Shine.  Please prepare and dress accordingly. Lunch will be provided.


Please note: Catholic Charities requires a completed volunteer form to be submitted to your team leader no later than Wednesday, September 6th.  **Your team leader will send the form as an email attachment.

11:45am - 4:15pm

USD volunteers should plan to meet at St. Thomas More Church on the SJU Queens campus no later than 11:45 am. The service project will begin at 12:30 and conclude at approximately 3:30 pm - volunteers can expect to return to campus by 4:15 pm. All materials will be provided.
