USD 2018: Midnight Run (RESERVED: VMC & VMI)
Event box
NATURE & PURPOSE OF SERVICE SITE:
The Midnight Run is a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless. In over 1,000 relief missions each year, Midnight Run volunteers from churches, synagogues, civic groups, and schools - like St. John's University - distribute food, clothing, blankets, and personal care items to the homeless poor on the streets of New York City. The late night relief efforts create a forum for trust, sharing, understanding, and affection. That human exchange, rather than the exchange of goods, is the essence of the Midnight Run mission.
Volunteers will meet at 6:30pm in St. Thomas More Church Daly Conference Room (Queens campus) to make nutritious, hearty sandwich bags, then distribute them (with coffee, soup, donated clothing and toiletries) at designated spots throughout Manhattan. Transportation will be provided, and the van will return to the Queens campus by 1:00am.
