Couchsurfing and the Marked Body: The Emergence of Queer Identity in a Hybrid Collective, published August 2020 in Journal for Cultural Research
Dr. Roberts' research uses theories of identity, sociality, and mobility as a framework to examine the features of the Couchsurfing community and introduces the term hybrid collective as a theoretical concept. This work investigates themes of hospitality and globalization through transnational ethnography – particularly focusing on gender and queer identity for Couchsurfing members and how these attributes encourage or inhibit movement through digital and geographical spaces.
